Sometimes It Can't Be Fixed11/24/2016Let’s face it; sometimes a variable frequency drive is just not repairable. If your drive is a smoking crater, it can be a bit tricky. Not to mention expensive. Usually at that point we will recommend you replace your existing AC drive with a new or refurbished one. Here at PES, we sell new AC drives from many different manufacturers including Yaskawa AC drives, Mitsubishi AC drives, Parker AC drives, Lenze servo drives, and many more. Just ask us.It’s not just VFDs we sell, we can also quote you on some different brands of new DC drives as well. Some of these brands include Parker, which used to be Eurotherm, which used to be SSD Drives, which used to be Shackleton Systems Drives, but that’s a different story in and of itself. Now where was I? Oh yeah, Call us if you need a replacement drive. That’s the bottom line. The next thing you may be thinking is “Hey, my unrepairable drive was made back when dinosaurs walked the Earth. It’s obsolete and not available any longer.” Well fear not, the good folks at Precision Electronic Services have you covered. If you’re not looking to re-engineer your machine to work with the latest and greatest new drive, we have an extensive network of access to surplus AC drives, DC drives, servo drives, and lots of other types of industrial controls as well. Often we can find a suitable replacement. If it is an older control, we will provide you a quote to get it in our shop, clean it up, do a refurbishment on it, bench test it, load test it, and basically put it through all of the paces that your original control would have gone through if it hadn’t decided to be so stubborn and decide it didn’t want to be repairable. Depending on how unruly the control is, we may be able to extract any programming or parameters that are needed to make it work on your application. If it’s not possible to retrieve the programming or parameters, we would most likely need you to provide them so that they could be entered before sending it back to you. Next, you might be asking, “Well what happens if you just don’t have any program to put into the replacement control?” In that instance, it would be returned to you with factory default programming. Which is to say, it’s like it would be if you had gotten it from the OEM except we’re costing you less, we’re way nicer and better looking too, (except for that one guy that works here but we’re not mentioning any names). So what have we learned here? First, not everything can be repaired every time. Second, when that happens, it may not be the end of the world because PES can get you set up with a new drive that will get you back up and into production. Bottom line - Call PES at 800-732-4695 - We can help! Back To Blog
